Birks will manage the editorial team of seven experienced insurance journalists from Reactions’ London office.
He has 18 years of industry experience and previously worked for Informa’s Insurance portfolio, as editor of Insurance News and contributor to Insurance Day.
Working with Birks in the UK will be David Benyon, EMEA and Asia editor, along with Vicky Beckett, news and social media reporter and Garry Booth, contributing editor.
He has covered the global insurance and reinsurance industry for 18 years, contributing to Insurance Day, The Review, The Re Report, and Enterprise Risk Management.
Since 2005 he has been the editor of Informa’s Insurance News 24. He also writes a weekly column for Insurance Day. He has also edited publications on online finance, insurance distribution strategies and on third-party capital.
He was named Informa Professional Editor of The Year in 2005 for his coverage of the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami and of Swiss Re’s takeover of GE Insurance Solutions.
Birks succeeds Michael Loney, who worked on Reactions for 11 years and has moved to Managing Intellectual Property, a sister publication also owned by Reactions' parent company, Euromoney Institutional Investor.
As Americas editor, Munro will join Reactions following five years of reporting for Insurance Day.
Munro will be based in Reactions’ New York office, overseeing Sam Kerr, US staff writer, and Rodrigo Amaral, Latin America contributing editor.
Reactions will be announcing further editorial hires for Asia and other markets soon.
Munro has been writing about the industry for five years, initially as a reporter on daily newspaper Insurance Day.
Less than two years later, he was promoted to senior reporter. His particular areas of expertise include the marine, energy, aviation and aerospace markets.
In addition to Insurance Day and Reactions, Munro has contributed to publications such as World at Risk, and other magazines like Creating Climate Wealth and The Stage.
