Reactions Events in New York - Free To View

Two Reactions-run events in New York next month will give re/insurance industry executives the opportunity to get up to speed with some of the major goings on in the alternative capital space while chief investment officers will also have the opportunity to hear about the leading issues affecting their sector.

The Alternative Capital in Re/Insurance Business Club is taking place on June 10 at New York’s Harmonie Club and will provide discussion and debate surrounding the growing convergence between the traditional market and the influx of cash from other sources.

A host of new insurance-linked securities instruments have been set up in the last 12 months, with organisations like New York’s Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) sponsoring a catastrophe bond for the first time.

Reinsurers are adapting to the growing threat posed by alternative capital by expanding their activity with the capital markets themselves. This has seen the sponsoring of their own catastrophe bonds, the creation of sidecars as well as the launch of entirely new operations such as Watford Re.

Some of the speakers taking part include the MTA’s director of risk and insurance management Laureen Coyne, and the president and chief underwriting officer for property reinsurance at Markel Re, Jed Rhoads.

Just two days after the Alternative Capital in Re/Insurance Business Club, chief investment officers, chief financial officers, treasurers and others will descend upon New York’s Harvard Club for the third annual Insurance Asset Management Forum.

The event, taking place on June 12, will provide attendees with insight from some of the leaders within this niche segment of the re/insurance industry. From discussions on what asset classes are providing the best returns to drilling down into specific strategies, this event will highlight some of the key considerations affecting the sector at present from some of the industry's sharpest minds.
