Japanese parents complete two London buys - FREE

Mitsui Sumitomo and Sompo Japan have completed their London re/insurance purchases, renaming their newly acquired subsidiaries MS Amlin and Sompo Canopius, respectively.

The separate announcements came today, as Mitsui Sumitomo’s deal completed for Amlin, and Canopius becomes part of the Sompo Holdings group.

Charles Philipps stays in the chief executive role at MS Amlin, while Stuart Davies is the recently appointed Sompo Canopius CEO.

“Today is an exciting moment in our story as we adopt a new brand and visual identity that reflect our ownership.   We have the secure backing of Sompo Holdings’ financial strength and global reach,” said Davies, of the Sompo deal.

MS Amlin’s Philipps added: “Our combination with MSI is incredibly positive for our business, our employees and our clients. I am very much looking forward to working with the MSI teams in London, Bermuda and elsewhere to unlock our full potential as part of MSI.”
