Ergo hires digital chief to lead €1bn overhaul - FREE

Ergo buildingErgo Group has appointed Mark Klein as its new chief digital officer for Ergo Digital Ventures, the arm tasked with transforming the group’s business online.

He joins Ergo, the primary insurance arm of German reinsurer Munich Re, from serving as chairman of mobile telecoms firm T-Mobile Netherlands.

He previously led marketing sales and digitalisation activities for all European shareholdings of Deutsche Telekom outside Germany.

Klein’s appointment comes a fortnight after Ergo announced a €1bn “digital transformation” of its online business between now and 2020.

Ergo’s Digital Ventures unit is responsible for all digital and direct activities of the group including its Ergo Direkt subsidiary, driving the insurer’s digital reform project.

“Mark Klein has already demonstrated in his positions to date that he is able to drive forward the digital transformation of complicated business models successfully,” said Markus Riess, chairman of the Ergo Group.

“I am delighted that we have secured him in our Group for this key position,” added Riess.
