CNA brings in new reinsurance buyer from AIG

CNA has a new reinsurance buyer after Mark James joined the Chicago-based carrier from American International Group. James will hold the title of senior vice president, global reinsurance, and in the role he is responsible for CNA’s worldwide treaty and facultative reinsurance placement strategies. Having joined CNA, James will report into Doug Worman, the insurer’s executive vice president and chief underwriting officer. He brings more than 15 years of reinsurance industry experience to CNA, the last 18 months of which were spent with AIG as its deputy chief ceded reinsurance officer. In that position, James provided strategic guidance to AIG’s global reinsurance department for the company’s various property and casualty treaties. The bulk of James’ reinsurance industry career has been with Chubb however. At Chubb, he held the title of senior vice president for worldwide reinsurance as well as the insurer’s risk manager. These positions gave him responsibility for Chubb’s global reinsurance placements, catastrophe bond issuance, collateralised reinsurance and risk management. “Mark’s extensive reinsurance knowledge and expertise will provide us the requisite leadership to facilitate the underwriting objectives for each of our business units and we are pleased to have him join us,” Worman said.
